Bear Davis is the Vice President and Head Coach of the Ohio Machine, a professional lacrosse team in the MLL. We were fortunate enough to have Bear Skype in with us since the Machine’s MLL season was already under way. Hearing Bear’s humble roots was truly incredible. A football player at a small Division II school, Bear wanted to pursue a career in sports but struggled to find the resources at his school. So, Bear took it upon himself and did an independent study where he started a lacrosse program at a local high school. From there he went on to start Wheeling Jesuit University’s lacrosse program and then onto a successful stint at Robert Morris’s. Bear’s perspective on the sports industry is one of a kind since he is not only a head coach but also in the front office of a small market sports franchise. Bear attributes much of his current success to the humble lessons and skills he learned at the beginner level of the sports industry. His message to SBA was one of dedication and hard work. Take your opportunities in sports and make the most of it with a positive attitude. Having a speaker such as Bear was one our members will never forget and we hope one day SBA can make it out to a Machine game at their brand-new lacrosse only facility and stadium.
