SBA is very lucky to have had a speaker such as Tim Williams. At first, Tim started off the night by explaining his twenty-two- year background in the FBI. Yes, the sports business association unknowingly brought in a speaker from the FBI. Joking aside, Tim is the head of security for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Tim has been with the Steelers since 2013 and his responsibilities go beyond Sundays. Tim explained to our organization how he is in charge for the security at all sporting events ranging from Pitt football games to the infamous Kenney Chesney concerts held at Heinz Field. With over one million visitors a year Tim’s job can be very challenging at certain points during the year when trying to balance fun and safety. Fortunately, with the help of the state and local police as well as Landmark Event staffing he has the resources he needs to protect fans and provide a great experience for fans.
In this meeting, we representatives from GNC to host a professional development event. They began first with discussing GNC and then their individual positions within the company. A first for SBA, J. Hobby and Sarah spent most their time speaking on the topic of Why Retail? The two discussed how easy it is to transfer from one segment to another in retail and why it is even an advantage. J. Hobby even explained how he has been in a variety of retail segments and consider each one a great opportunity to learn and grow as an individual. Afterwards, they discussed with us the best way to promote ourselves: what to include in resumes and cover letters, and how to be prepared in interviews. They explained how important it is to be authentic and to make you are adequately prepared for every interview.
